In Honor of Daiquiri Season: The Hornswoggler Daiquiri
The daiquiri is easily one of the most beloved and quintessential drinks in cocktail history. From the original Cuban recipe to the neon-hued frozen concoctions slurped up by Bourbon Street revelers, the daiquiri has been a fixture for over a century, and has bred countless variations along the way. The recipe’s simplicity — rum, lime, syrup — belies the complex nature of the drink: it’s incredibly easy to mess up. When done right, though, it’s one of the most balanced (not to mention refreshing) drinks in the cocktail canon. As September comes to a close and daiquiri season ends, we…

Summer may be over but never wrong season for some homemade ice cream.

They said that the first day of Fall was September 22. Not here in Texas. It’s still pretty hot outside and when it’s hot, I want to make some ice cream.

I ran across some good peaches at Trader Joe’s a few weeks ago and just had to make a couple of jars of peach preserves and with the peaches that didn’t get go into the preserves I made this peachy pistachio ice cream and it did its job and cooled us down on a hot […]

U.S. Does...Sidebar The Woodlands
As the saying goes, “No great story ever started with a salad!”; now if you told that same story while cocktailing, the results would be altogether different. So what do you think you would have if you visited a bar where a majority of the cocktails created had a story? Well, that’s what bar manager/cocktail creator Patrick Abalos and his team are doing at Sidebar in The Woodlands. They are creating cocktails that have a story. This little gem, which is located on the second floor of The Westin Hotel, is not what you would expect from a hotel bar. …

Shrimp Taco Wraps

On September 25, 2016 By

You don’t need any tortillas for this taco.

I’m always looking for something new to try on friends. Wednesday night is my “girl’s night out” night. Sometimes we do “movie night” (my favorite), sometimes we go out to eat at a local restaurant or occasionally we do dinner and one of our houses.

I love fish tacos and I know I’ve been doing a lot of shrimp recipes lately but I couldn’t resist trying out a recipe for shrimp tacos using lettuce leaves in place of the tortillas; so is it a taco or lettuce wrap or a little […]
