Attending tastings provide for a chance to try and learn about wines, spirits, or beers one may have never known about. Many wine bars and boutiques, as well as restaurants in the Houston area offer inexpensive tastings every week. Sometimes you want more than what's provided at most free tastings.

Take the plunge and make the splurge (if you can) on tastings that offer for your bucks. Here are this week's splurge-worthy tastings that cost a tad more than the ones normally suggested and you will not leave you disappointed.

Tuesday, November 29:

Join Crú: A Wine Bar at Market Street for a special wine tasting spotlighting Flora Springs Winery of Napa Valley. Taste select wines from Flora Springs' portfolio and have questions answered by a representative of the winery. Reservations suggested.

Wednesday, November 30:

Taste and vote on wines that will featured on the shelves at Cova Hand-Selected Wines. The Kirby location is hosting a wine tasting centered around the wines most are unfamiliar with during its themed tasting, Crazy, Weird, Wine World. Wines spotlighted include Alois Lageder 'Römigberg - Kalterersee Classico (Trentino-Alto-Adige, Italy, 2009), L'Avi Arrufi Cellar Pinol (Terra Alta, Spain, 2009), and more. Baguettes, charcuterie, and cheeses will be paired with the wines. Reservations required.

Friday, January 27:

Leisure Learning Unlimited (2990 Richmond Ave.): Led by award-winning home brewer, James Wolfe, learn how to distinguish various beers by flavors and aromas in the Tasting Texas Beers class. Samples of local beers will be available and paired with light bites. The class is $45 and registration is required.

Saturday, January 28:

Arcodoro (5000 Westheimer): Dive into the world of Italian wines at Arcodoro’s School of Wine. After a brief hiatus, the Intro to Italian wine class returns for the winter where attendees will receive an in-depth mini lecture. Guests will taste five Italian wines paired with antipasti. Class is $30 and will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Call (713) 621-6888 to reserve seating.
