It's another roundup of wine and libation tastings on the cheap. Whether it's trying a new wine, learning about the origins and process of a favorite whiskey, it can be done for less than $20 or for free. Tuesday, October 25:



Downing Street Pub (2549 Kirby): Complimentary scotch tasting featuring Balvenie Whiskey led by a Balvenie Distillery brand ambassador at 7 p.m. Arrive at 6:30 p.m. to try a cocktail using Balvenie 12 yr.
Plonk! Beer & Wine Bistro (1214 West 43rd Street): Free wine tasting featuring Bonny Doon Vineyard from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Vino Bello Wine Bar (11702 Grant Road; Cypress): Complimentary wine tasting at 6 p.m.
Vinoteca Quattro (1300 Lamar): Four Seasons Hotel's Vinoteca Quattro hosts a weekly wine tasting featuring a flight of four wines accompanied by a cheese buffet. The cost is $16 and is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Mezzanotte Ristorante (13215 Grant Road): Weekly mini wine tasting featuring four wines, each paired with tapas for $17. Tasting is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.



Go beyond tasting and attend a class for an in-depth learning experience without shelling out a lot of money. Reserve 101 is offering a whiskey class Tuesday and it's free.

Sonoma Retail Wine Bar & Restaurant (2720 Richmond Avenue): The River Oaks wine bar brings a taste of Argentina and Spain with a special wine tasting from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Featured wines include 2010 La Flor Malbec Mendoza (Argentina), 2005 Seleccion 12 Reserve Luzon Red Blend Jumilla (Spain), 2009 Felino Reserve Malbec Mendoza, (Argentina), 2009 Bodegas Carchelo Red Blend Jumilla (Spain). Friday, October 28:

Black Walnut Cafe (23233 Cinco Ranch Blvd., Katy): Free No Label Brewing Co. tasting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Houston Wine Merchant (2646 S. Shepherd): Free weekly wine tasting held in an open house format from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Top Shelf Wine & Spirits (16535 Lexington Boulevard; Sugar Land): Free weekly tasting of wines and/or spirits from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. This week will feature AGV Tequila and wines from Vinum Cellars.



Sonoma Retail Wine Bar & Restaurant (2720 Richmond Avenue) Weekly wine tasting from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This week's tasting will be a blind tasting with a prize for the person who guesses correctly. Tasting fee is $5.
