If someone tells you there's nothing to do in Houston this weekend, obviously they are sadly mistaken. Being among the top five largest cities in the United States, Houston offers a lot of activities that saying "there's nothing to do in Houston", will never cross any person's lips again.

Then again, it's all about knowing what's happening around town and where to go. If someone doesn't know what's going on in their own backyards, most likely that will be the response heard each and every weekend.

We're here to provide a little assistance. With your knowledge of places to dine without breaking the bank and food-related events on the cheap, the cries of there's nothing-to-do-this-weekend will be a thing of the past.

Have a Spot of Tea & Take a Tour of a New Tea House in Downtown

Magnolia Tea House & Cafe opened last month in the historic Magnolia Ballroom in Downtown Houston. Proprietor and tea connoisseur, Sherry Stockwell, is hosting a series of open houses to the public, as an introduction to what the tea room offers. There's also a tour of the Magnolia Ballroom followed by tea tastings and homemade treats infused with tea. Proceeds from the tour will go towards an elevator to be installed inside the city landmark.

Have a Smorgasbord of Swedish Dishes

For those who have wondered how the Swedes throw down for the holiday, IKEA Houston is answering that question and more. It's a traditional Julbord as IKEA offers its annual Swedish holiday feast. On the menu are an assortment of fishes like herring and whole poached salmon, a Christmas ham, meatballs and lingonberries, a variety of salads, and desserts.

The buffet also includes coffee, tea, fountain beverages, and a holiday favorite, glögg. It's the Saint Arnold beer sampling that will make this meal a home run, as craft beer lovers will receive a tasting of Saint Arnold's Christmas Ale. Call to purchase a ticket in advance.
